Well water can become contaminated at any time without your knowledge. Common causes include a breach of the well or septic system, livestock waste, agricultural and lawn chemicals, and naturally occurring elements. Most often you can't taste a contaminant, and you can't smell it, but it can be there! Only through testing can you be assured of a continued supply of clean, safe water. Many state and federal authorities recommend private wells be tested at least once a year to ensure the continued safety of the water.
Our test results will reveal the type of contaminants, the level of contamination, and current levels accepted by state authorities. Abendroth Water makes testing simple, fast and affordable.
Using a Wisconsin lab with state certification since 1985, we can test your water for the most common contaminants found in local wells, such as bacteria, nitrates and arsenic. We can also test for any number of other contaminants, including Volatile Organic Chemicals (petroleum and solvent contamination) or Radionuclide issues such as radium and radon gas.
We also provide certified well and septic system inspections from our team of fully licensed and insured inspectors. Annual inspections provide you with confidence in the safety of your system, and help head-off problems and related repair costs. Annual inspections are especially important before you buy or sell a home.
Frequently Asked Questions:
Q. Is well water safe to drink?
Yes. Water from a private well can be just as safe, if not safer, than municipal water. However, regular testing is needed to ensure a continued supply of clean, safe water.
Q. How can I tell if my well water is safe?
While some contaminants will change the appearance or taste of the water, others cannot be seen, smelled, or even tasted. The only sure way to know is to have your water tested.
Q. Can I test my water at home?
While do-it-yourself test kits are available on the market, these tests are never as accurate as those performed by a state-certified lab. Safe water shouldn't be a guessing game. To know what's in your water for sure, utilize the services of a certified lab.
Q. How often should I have my well tested?
Many state and federal authorities recommend having your water tested annually for coliform bacteria and nitrates. Other contaminants should be tested for at least once every five to ten years.
Q. How long will it take to get the results?
Some laboratories may take as long as two weeks to return your results. Our State Certified Lab will usually return your results within three to five business days.
Q. How much will a water test cost me?
Costs can vary depending on the number and type of tests you request. Typical tests range from $25-$400.
Q. Can I clean & sanitize my well myself?
Yes you can. Abendroth Water Conditioning can sell you the products needed to perform this service. We sell only high quality EPA & DNR approved products to be certified safe for your well.
